T A T E M E N T
Born in America in my mother's homeland
and raised in Venezuela, the country of my father,
I am the product of cross-cultural
influences, experiences and dualities
which find expression in my work.
These paintings come from
an internal source of needs and desires
where ideas arise between
the shadows of sequestered memory
and the light of conscious acknowledgment.
Within these images awaken the dualities
of positive and negative.
These eternal principals
entangle, struggle, and merge toward resolution.
Color and images,
laden with both verbal association and sensual innuendo,
are symbols infused with feminine nuances.
While beneath the surface of
ambient innocence and vibrant hue,
dissonance and disjunction murmur and levitate.
Fragmentation occurs. Disarray overflows.
Yet, within the unfolding drama,
where fragility encounters crudeness,
where anxiety and vulnerability seek transcendence,
lies the search for integration and wholeness,
where beauty and hope strive
for Oneness.
